Easter Miracle

On the 12th of April Scientific Library took part in the annual event “Easter Miracle” arranged on the Faculty of Ukrainian and Foreign Languages and Art. There were Easter eggs (pysankas), pictures, beautiful vytynankas (paper cutting art), Ukrainian embroidery, weaving and Petrikivka painting.
Our librarians presented their own art works. Permanent participants Olga Sukh and Yanina Stets presented their bead and cross-stitch pictures. Olena Bilyk exhibited hand-made jewelry – elegant necklaces, cuffs and bracelets made from natural stone and wood. Natalia Botan showed boxes and baskets made in a popular technique newspaper tube weaving.
The librarians of Social and Human Science Reading Hall prepared a special magazine exposition dedicated to Easter:
“Holidays, Rituals and Traditions”. It totaled 39 books and periodicals. The exposition consisted of the following sections:

1. Customs of Our People.
2. Happy Easter! Celebrate as your please!
3. Eternal Life of Easter Egg.
4. Petrikivka is Ukraine’s Soul and a brand of Dnipro Region.

The book exhibition shows a rich world of Ukrainian traditions, rituals, customs and beliefs which were formed during centuries in the history of the Ukrainians and again are gaining popularity on a new historical stage.
Books “The World of Ukrainian Pysanka”, “Destiny Embroidery: Symbols and Techniques of Sewing” by M.I. Chumarna and “Pysankas of Katerinoslav” by Yu. Datchenko attracted special attention of visitors.
The book exhibition is available by 1.05.2017 in Reading Hall of Social and Human Science (Room 406).
We hope that the presented literature will be interesting for teachers and students of our University.
