The fourth Saturday of November in Ukraine marks a Holodomor Memorial Day
The Ukrainian famine of 1932-1933 left terrible traces in Ukraine's history. During the 20th century the Ukrainian people lived through the Civil War and the Famine of 1921-1923, repressions of 1937-1938, the War of 1941-1945, the Nazi occupation and the Holocaust, the famine of 1946-1947. However, the humanatarian consequences of the Ukrainian Famine of 1932-1933 can not be compared with anything. Historians and demographers still debate about the number of famine victims. Recent research shows different data - from 3 to 10 million people. On the 28th of April in 2010 the European Parliament adopted a Resolution on the commemoration of the Holodomor (the Ukraine artificial famine (1932-1933) and other republics of the former Soviet Union. Memorial events are held both in Ukraine and abroad. Every year on this day all-Ukrainian action "Light a Candle" is held.
The department of scientific literature prepared an exhibition to commemorate this tragic day. It is called "Candle of Memory". Books about the famine of 1932-1933 are presented here:
