The Lyceum is visiting the library

On November 7, the scientific library was visited by two groups of students of the 8th grade of Dnipro Lyceum of Information Technologies at DNU. A cheerful youthful crowd filled the wide lobby of the library, and as the excursion began, the first noise was gradually replaced by the silence of interest. Young visitors saw the first books of Katerynoslav, namely encyclopedias, scientific publications and textbooks of the late 19th century on history, geography, mathematics etc. The oldest books, which were lifetime editions of Taras Shevchenko and Ivan Kotlyarevsky dating back to the 16th - 17th centuries, were presented to the students.
The unusual design of “Reinecke Fuchs von Wolfgang von Goethe mit Zeichnungen von Wilhelm von Kaulbach” (1867, German edition) caused a lively discussion.
The future students listened very attentively to interesting stories about the works of D.I. Yavornitski bought by the library at different times under different circumstances. The review included chronicles, The Peresopnytsia Gospels, the first alphabets, historical and literary monuments of Ukraine. Modern editions of significant formats and unusual design dedicated to the history of Dnipropetrovsk region and Ukraine attracted everybody’s attention.
The young excursionists learned about searching literature in alphabetical and systematic catalogs. It was useful to get acquainted with foreign literature valuable in content, ways of its acquisition and original design.
A librarian of the fiction department revealed the role of reading presenting interesting quotes from fiction texts and proposed to compare them to the films made on the base of these books. The excursion took more than an hour instead of planned 45 minutes. The students, together with the librarian and the curator, were pleased with the event and promised to continue to visit the library.
